Hi, PBC -
I wanted to let members who were unable to attend the annual meeting know about the seven (!) new and new-to-PBC boats in the Racing Committee fleet. We named four boats in honor of current PBCers who are longtime members and have been dedicated volunteers for many years, along with three boats with historically inspired names:
The Swider, named for Karen Swider, is a lighter midweight convertible coxed four/coxed quad
The Jason R. Higley is a heavier midweight convertible coxed four/coxed quad
The Peter Daniel Clements is a heavyweight coxed four
The Lena Wang, the Anna Bestor Doyle 1881, and the Pride of the Potomac River are midweight women's eights
The Vigilant is a heavyweight eight
We were very proud to host representatives from DC Fire and EMS in whose honor we named the Vigilant, and are particularly thrilled about the three women's eights, which as far as we know are the first club-owned women's eights in PBC history!
A few folks asked me to share the information I read about the names of the Anna Bestor Doyle 1881, the Pride of the Potomac River, and the Vigilant, and you can read it all here, along with some additional bits of historical detail: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1b7qEU4DPhmBTqgSmPxFtf63jhUm3mjrA8WWa-YoVimE/edit?usp=sharing
On behalf of all the RC teams, thank you again to the Board and to the membership for your continued support. We can’t wait to race these boats and make PBC proud!
Lauren
