2018 Summer Junior/U23 Sculling Program

Potomac Boat Club 2018 Summer Sculling Program
June 10th – August 10th
PBC Summer Sculling Theme: Own your role in your own success by being more than just an athlete, be a sculler.

Potomac Boat Club has a long tradition of developing young athletes into National Champions, National Team Members, World Champions, Pan-American Games Medalists, and even Olympians. PBC’s Summer Sculling Program gives athletes the framework and tools on which to build an international rowing career.

Through intensive technical drilling, physical development, and summer racing, athletes will improve their stroke, learn how to train at an elite level, and refine their mental approach to racing. Each athlete will receive individual attention aimed at increasing their current strengths with day-to-day focused drills and workouts.

For full program information, standards, and contact information, please review the 2018 PBC Summer Sculling Program Info & Registration document.

Annual PBC Work Day, Saturday, May 12th

Mark your calendars!

Let’s all come out and make quick work of spring cleaning around the house. Sweeping, washing, sorting, fixing, and all sorts of easy tasks for anyone and everyone.

Remember that volunteer work is a requirement of members. But it’s always a good time as well. See many other members that you maybe don’t see regularly.

See you there!

PBC Annual Meeting & Board Elections – April 15, 2018

Potomac Boat Club has a 9-person Board that is the governing body of PBC.  Every year, we hold elections for three board member seats, which serves for a three-year term.  If you believe that you can represent your fellow members, potential to improve the Club, and have the time, energy and passion to devote, we would highly recommend that you give this serious consideration.

Want a bit more information?  The Board is a collaborative body; one useful thing learned by sitting on a Board, particularly a non-profit Board of an all-volunteer organization, is the need for balance and understanding of different viewpoints. Our governing documents provide that only senior members in good standing (i.e., are current on all dues and fees payments), and who attend the Annual Meeting in person, may vote. No proxies are allowed – and one vote per membership.  So please do come to the Annual Meeting, exercise […]

A note on crossing the river safely

Dear PBC’ers:

Please check for traffic moving upstream past PBC when you launch and return. Please be sure to yield to these other crews!

There is no need to cause crews from other boathouses concern for for their safety in your eagerness to get out to practice, or to return quickly to the dock when you are done for the day. Many of those other crews are inexperienced, so it’s difficult for them to hit the brakes to avoid a collision, and they should not have to do this. Our boats must yield right of way. Just as you do when driving your car – wait for an opening!

It is your duty – a duty for all of us, to yield to traffic in the pattern when crossing the river at any time, at any point of the river, not just in front of our house. We […]
