Reminder - DEI Sponsored Volunteer Opportunity
Author Last Post

PBC’s Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Council is sponsoring an opportunity for PBC to become more involved in helping our DC community. We will be serving breakfast at So Others May Eat (SOME), on Friday, September 23rd from 6:30 AM until 9:30 AM.

SOME provides material aid and comfort to its neighbors in the District, helping them break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help transform lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them.

Volunteers play an essential role in SOME’s work. PBC has registered for the breakfast service on September 23rdSpace is limited. SOME requires that you register through the link they have set up for the Potomac Boat Club. The link is at the bottom of this e-mail. When registering, you will be asked to create an account. This ensures we have the contact information necessary to send any updates.

This opportunity is open to PBC members in good standing.

This is an in-person, client-facing opportunity. PBC will be serving breakfast in the SOME dining room, located at 71 “O” Street NW.   Volunteers must arrive no later than 6:30am and will be needed until 9:30am. Volunteers will be supporting the SOME Dining Room staff in breakfast service, helping with creating plates of food, dish washing assistance, and deep cleaning. The shift will consist of three 30-minute meal periods with 15-minute resets in-between for cleaning. All volunteers will help with dining room reset.

All volunteers must have an account in Volunteer Hub. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old. Volunteers between the ages of 13 and 16 must be supervised by an adult who is also signed up to volunteer.

SOME requires all volunteers be fully vaccinated.  All volunteers will be required to wear a mask at all times and will have their temperature taken upon arrival.

PBC’s DEI Council is looking forward to this opportunity to display PBC’s support of its community. The PBC Board has approved that volunteering for DEI-sponsored events can count up to half of the 10-hour volunteer requirement for PBC members. Participation in this event will count as three hours toward that requirement.

Please make sure you are able to attend before signing up. SOME relies on its volunteers to be there in order to continue the success of their programs. Here is the sign-up link: http://vhub.at/PBCvolunteer
