4th Sister and Navigation Reminder!
Author Last Post

Fellow members,

This is a reminder that the Three Sister Islands have an ugly step-sister just upstream of them, maybe 25 yards at most, that is not visible except at the most shallow of times. This rock is a BOAT EATER. It is actually a shelf of rocks that slope diagonally across the river, slightly downstream, and towards DC. With this in mind, please proceed well above the sisters before cutting in towards the DC shore. On the DC shore there is a small stone "arch" that can be seen as you pass the Sisters headed upstream, and then following that are some large trees with some very pale bark, followed by an opening in the brush and a fence visible on the bike trail. Try to get to these trees and the fence before cutting over to avoid heartache and boat damage.

PS- there is also a rock directly next to the largest sister that can also cause harm. Don't cut the sisters too close. Give yourself at least a boat's width off the island when passing.

Please re familiarize yourself with the Potomac River Safety Committee rules, guidelines, and river map, all of which can be found at PRSC link
