Update: New Year, New Opportunities

Following up on Olwen’s post from a few days ago, regarding the results from the Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints last weekend. First of all, congratulations to all of those who participated and have been getting faster by logging in their meters this winter.

As mentioned, Potomac Boat Club won the 2017 Team Award with a final score of 297 points. The main composition of these points are attributed to the following medals: 28 gold, 13 silver, and 5 bronze. That said, I would like to point out that everyone who competed contributed, since PBC has always had a tremendous presence at this event every year. I also wanted to briefly recognize Alexandria Community Rowing, who got second place with a score of 254 points. They proved once again to be great competitors, and definitely walked away with a decent collection of medals as well.

Doing our part, each person in the High Performance […]

Reminder about Rowing by TBC

A few years ago, we sat down with the Potomac River Safey Committee, TBC’s management and representatives of some of PBC and agreed upon one thing: Don’t complete any speedwork on the DC side of the TBC bend.  In a nutshell, don’t go blazing by their dock.

In the summer we have a lot of novices trying out singles from TBC.  As much as they are told the rules of the river, we have to treat those rowers like the weekend paddleboarders and kayakers: they aren’t remembering traffic rules.  It does not make it okay but to keep ourselves safe, we agreed that we go around that bend with caution.

This is a time to remind since the singles are still out there and the college programs are starting back up.  It isn’t worth the injury to the boats and the rowers.

Many thanks,

2016 Board of Governors Election

Following are PBC Members who are running for 2016 open board seats along with their statements of interest:

Greg Ansolabehere
The reason I came to PBC was to accomplish something. Accomplish my goal of making the national team and eventually the Olympics. During my time here, since 2013, I’ve been amazed at what this club can accomplish, how well it takes care of the house and the membership. Being a member of the Open Sculling team allows me to take advantage of all the awesome resources our club has to offer. Not only do my teammates and I enjoy an all-star coaching staff, but the boathouse itself, equipment and location are all something special that I can’t imagine my life without. Running for the board is just one way I can give back to this community that has given me so much. I want to be a part of the organization […]

A Whirlwind Weekend

Busy weekend for Potomac! Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints on Saturday, February 1, for many of us. And your friendly PBC Social Committee packed in three events for you too from Friday, January 31 till Sunday, February 2.

Thanks to SC members Tim Spell and Pete Folger who rose and shone on Friday morning to start brewing coffee. Good turnout for our Year of the Horse celebration– especially considering the taper for erg sprints. Giddy-up, PBC! Stoked on Chinese good fortune—and relentless training—Potomac was poised for victory the next day at Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints.

And then came the epic Hurt Locker Happy Hour and Dance Party of 2014. After a brief recovery, racers were back at it partying with other members of the PBC community, giving the Oar Shot a work out, and re-fueling the glycogen tanks. (Liquid carbs count, right?)

We have SC member Lorea Wetten to thank for selecting and providing the ice […]
