The Social Committee builds a community of rowers who make Potomac Boat Club a club and not just a boathouse facility. We bring the club together and foster social ties through events catering to our members and their guests and we support club participation in community outreach activities too.

You can count on us to tap, pour, shake, stir, mix, brew, hoist, shoot, sip, swill, and chug in order to redline PBC’s fun meter. We take our charge seriously and spend countless hours cloistered together strategizing and scheming to make PBC a better place. We spare no effort to make the necessary capital investments (e.g.,  kegerator, charcoal grills, TV) and build special delivery mechanisms (e.g., oar shot) to enhance your ability to play as hard as you work. Highlights of the PBC Social Calendar include events such as our Strawberry Brunch, Hurt Locker Happy Hour, Victory Party, Holiday Party, barbecue at the Charlie Butt Scullers’ Head of the Potomac, and parties on the porch.

But we are not just party animals. We provide refreshments during club activities including work days and members’ meetings. We also host occasional post-practice coffees to perk you up and yoga classes to stretch you out. In addition, we encourage members to lend time and talents to charitable causes and to benefit the broader Potomac River and Georgetown communities of which we are a part.

The Social Committee Chair is Virginia Veiga Bryant.  Committee members include: Camilla Durfee, Peter Folger, Johnny Forrest, Brett Freeman, Hudson Osgood, Stuart Jackson Sloan, Susan Trice, Greg van der Vink, Susan Weeks, and Lorea Wetten.
