The Social Committee organizes various events for the membership throughout the year. In the past, these have included Strawberry Brunches on the boathouse deck, Club anniversary parties, wine tastings, and the social event of the PBC season, the Winter Ball. The Social Committee also coordinates food and refreshments at Club-wide meetings. The current Social Committee Chair is shared by Camilla Durfee, John Lavery, and Susan Trice.
Each of you, and all our friends along the river, are invited to hear Holly Metcalf's motivational insights, "Winning Doesn't Always Mean Getting the Gold" at a reception for her this Sunday.
At the l984 Los Angeles games, Holly stood for us as a member of the first USA Women’s Olympic crew to win the Women's 8+ Gold medal. Since receiving her medal, Holly has tirelessly crisscrossed this country, coaching novice to advanced rowers. She has established national rowing camps for women, and she has empowered thousands of women, including breast cancer survivors, to reach beyond their perceived limits through her non profit organization, Row As One.
Women rowers have no greater champion than Holly. None of us really knows what was said when Holly, along with her crew, stood on the podium to receive their Olympic Gold medals. But we will always know how proud she and these gallant women made us feel as Americans.
