Participants, aged 21-70, are coached by Head Coach Sally O'Connor.
The Masters Rowing Program mission is to provide an environment and structure that promote competitive rowing for all members. It achieves this mission by:
Individualized attention provided by the coaching staff allows members to progress to their highest skill level. PBC's Masters Rowing Program has distinguished itself over the years with successes in regional, national, and world competition. Most recently, at the 2006 Master's Worlds the MRP won gold in the F4x.
Starting in 2005, the former Masters Sculling (men and women) and Masters Women's Sweeps programs have been combined under a single coaching staff. Masters rowers develop their skills in both types of boats, with a goal of being able to compete successfully in both sweep and sculling events. Rowers have the option to focus on sculling or sweeps.
The program welcomes rowers with adequate technical rowing ability, competitive rowing experience, good fitness and strength, and a strong commitment to practice and race. The coaches assess applicants' skill levels, fitness and compatibility with the mission and goals of the program. There may also be seat racing during the season.
Practices are currently scheduled five mornings a week, Monday – Friday. The team meets at 5:15 am and launches by 5:30 a.m. and returns to the dock by 7:00 am. Winter training will begin in Mid-November and will include a varied conditioning program that goes beyond mere erging.
If you are interested in rowing with this program or wish to learn more about it, please send an email to masters@potomacboatclub.org.
